Last week Mr. TOF and I read one of my current favorite picture books, Nanette’s Baguette by Mo Willems.  I love the words in this book.  Mr. TOF was captivated by the picture on the book jacket where the author talks a bit about his process of illustrating the book.  Willems made 3D pictures and photographed them to create the pages of the book.

Mr. TOF was inspired.  It coincided perfectly with an art project he was working on in art class at kindergarten.  They were making 3D pictures of their own, with pieces of paper and cardboard sticking up to give dimension to the original paper.   He spent 2 days  at home during spring break  creating gigantic 3D posters that told a story he had in his mind about a turtle who grows up, has a good life, meets other animals, and well, dies. “It’s sad, mom, but it’s part of a turtle’s life,” he told me. When all the pictures were finished he begged to use the kid camera to photograph them, with plans to make his own book.

I was pretty charmed.

He LOVED getting to use the kids camera.  He hasn’t used it for awhile, and after photographing the posters, he zipped around the house photographing everything.  The poor shutter was constantly clicking.  So fun.
