Mr. SP goes to Camp and Gets Mail

I’m a few weeks behind on posting.  Mr. SP was at Bible camp about two weeks ago.  There is a tradition at our Bible camp that if you receive a box or three pieces of mail in a day you have to sing a song, tell a joke or do something silly like a Tarzan yell.  Normally we take advantage of that as a family and send quite a bit of mail to Bible camp.  Admittedly, this year I was a bit off my game, and Mr. SP’s sisters didn’t get any mail at camp.  Oops.

But we did NOT forget to write letters to Mr. SP!  Well, actually I did forget for the first part of the week, but we declared Wednesday letter writing day.  Since Dr. Peds would be driving close to camp to go to the cabin on Thursday, he offered to deliver mail to camp for us, which meant that there was no postage restrictions.  We went hog wild, and in less than an hour, the four girls, Mr. TOF and I came up with 48 (or more?) letters.  Aren’t big families terrific? It was pretty great.  There were letters in Latvian.  There were letters from the cat.  The Banana had a number of side splitting hilarious letters.

It happened that Mr. SP had just stepped out of the chapel to go to the bathroom when the counselors announced “Mail Call.”  When he walked back in everyone was staring at him, and one counselor threw 48 envelopes into the air.  They determined that Mr. SP could either tell 16 jokes, or 3 jokes and they would just throw him in the lake.  He could choose.  He chose the lake.

His retelling of the whole episode on the way to the cabin when we picked him up was truly hilarious.  I was laughing so hard I nearly had to pull over on the highway because I couldn’t see through the tears streaming down my face.
