The Banana: Not a Fan of Veggies

The Banana is not a fan of vegetables.  She never really has been.  Typically, she’ll eat all of her food except for the vegetables (she’ll even pick around the vegetables if they are hiding in the rest of her food) and proclaim that she’s simply too full to finish her food.  It’s not that she really, really hates vegetables.  She will eat them if she thinks she’s going to miss out on something yummy that other people are going to eat.  She’ll eat them for a snack if she’s really, really hungry.  She just generally doesn’t like the IDEA of eating them, and they just don’t taste nearly as good as all of the other food available to her.

This afternoon I was sweeping the dining room floor and came across this little pile of carrots behind the door to the kitchen.  I could tell most of the pile was from lunch, but a few  of the carrots were from yesterday.  I called all the kidlets in.  No one admitted to putting their carrots in a pile behind the door.  I told them I was going down to do a load of laundry and that someone had better tell the truth when I got back, or there would be a consequence.  Bless her heart, The Banana can be tricky, but she can’t stand disappointing people, or being on their bad side, or making them sad or upset, and she fessed up pretty quickly.  I had a distinct feeling it was her all along.

Do you have a child named “Not Me”? We do, he/she shows up on a regular basis, although I never meet him/her. It makes those Family Circus comics so so so real (and less funny actually).
