Searching for Creepy Crawlies

This is the first real week of summer here, the first real week of no school.  It’s gone remarkably well, much better than anticipated, but the dynamics have certainly been interesting.  Oh the squabbles!  From sun up to sun down there are squabbles.  The combination of three children together doing anything, anything at all results in major squabbles.  Loud squabbles.  Loud, whiny squabbles that sometimes involve screaming . . . on their part and my part.

Yesterday was the first afternoon in several days that the weather cooperated and the cooped up kidlets were able to spend some time outside.  Right away, Ya Ya discovered that all the slugs in her collection in a glass jar had died.  More specifically, they had drowned.  Ever the manager, she parked herself in a lawn chair in the shade with a book and sent her minions, Mr. SP and The Banana off to dig for some new worms and slugs to fill her jar back up.

If they were particularly helpful, she mentioned that they might get a chance to use her special pair of tweezers.  It didn’t ever happen, though, because Mr. SP discovered the art of making mudballs, which he loved throwing at spiderwebs, and his big sister when I wasn’t looking.  And that  led to . . . you guessed it, more squabbling.  And whining.
