House Projects
We’re in the middle of some house projects here. We’re still waiting for the door for our garage that we are renovating into a mudroom, so we are living with our big freezer in the family room. At this point I don’t even notice it anymore. It just feels normal to walk into the family room and pull out a package of frozen hamburger from a large white appliance.
Last week we painted our dining room! I wish I could show you a picture, but my camera can’t seem to correctly capture the new color, which is a light blue-green, but more blue than green. The girls and I really like it. Dr. Peds isn’t a big fan. He thinks the color is too bright, too trendy (we will get tired of it in less than 10 years, he complained) and too much like an old lady mint green. I worried about the old lady mint green effect, but I think it is not that shade of mint green that was so popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Painting is a big deal around here. Because I’m such a sloppy painter, I’m not allowed to do any painting of walls, trim, or even outdoor chalkboards. Dr. Peds has had to fix too many disasters and won’t let me near the stuff. Let me tell you, I am SO EXCITED he is painting for me! I’ve been waiting and waiting to have things painted.
There are rooms of the house that I have never felt were the right color. For example, there have been plans 10 years in the making to repaint my office upstairs, and guess what! It’s finally happening! Yahoo! The walls are turning the perfect shade of yellow (again, Dr. Peds is not a fan of the shade I picked, but I really like it) and the ugly brown trim is finally getting painted white to match the windows. Best of all, we are ripping out the carpet on the floor, which is beige and stained in 237 places. I am so, so happy to not have carpet in there. It is going to be so much easier to keep things clean with a hardwood floor. Side note: Mr. TOF is very distressed about the lack of carpet and is begging for a nice rug on the floor. We’ll see.
I stressed out so much about picking the right colors. I’ve been trying to figure out wall colors for YEARS, and I’m notoriously bad at getting the wrong color. I was really worried when the paint started going on the actual wall, but I feel very cheerful about how things are starting to look.
In the meantime, we have office supplies in the bedroom, office chairs in the family room, houseplants displaced in weird places, and for a bit there was furniture in the stairwell. Did I mention the freezer in the family room? And all the stuff that used to be in the garage in the basement and the outside shed?
No one can find anything.
