What I Learned in February

  • I tried real olives, as in olives not from a tin can, for the first time.  They tasted nothing like what I thought they would, and they were crunchy!  I don’t think I would want to eat very many of them, but trying just one went alright.  It’s always news around here when I manage to try a new food, because I have some, well, issues with food that is not typical for me.  That’s actually the subject of a blog post in and of itself that I should write one day.
  • I am learning the second movement of a cello sonata by Bernhard Romberg.
  • On the piano I am learning accompaniments for YaYa’s oboe solo and The Banana’s violin.  I’m not a strong accompanist, so I have to practice diligently.
  • When the kidlets leave, the cat goes berserk because he’s starved for attention.  I had a hard time sleeping the week the kidlets spent with Grandma Kathy because the cat kept sleeping on my head each night.  Literally.  The cat was on my head.  He also followed me everywhere I went in the house, and when I would sit down, he’d climb up on my shoulders.
  • I learned that I have zero problem staying home all day every day for a week when I do not have to take kids anywhere.  I cannot tell you how happy I was that I didn’t have to leave my house AT ALL.
  • I learned that when a leader expresses gratitude it can have some incredible positive effects in the people who are being led.
