Dueling Trumpets
My favorite part of “Cousin Weekend” (when a whole horde of wonderful relatives were sleeping at my house) might have been these dueling trumpets. My niece is an amazing trumpet player, and while she was practicing, (can I interject another parenthetical expression to tell you that I LOVE hearing her practice?) my brother-in-law picked up Mr. SP’s trumpet (he was at camp that day) and they started improvising duets to pep band songs and The Star Spangled Banner with lots of crazy high notes and wonderful, loud ornamentation. At 11:00 p.m. We bring excitement to the neighborhood on my corner of the street! It was awesome.
