Unexpected: Flight During the Golden Hour

Last week I loaded up three kids and we headed to pick raspberries.  Our tried and true raspberry farm close to our house closed a few years ago, so now we have to drive a bit in the other direction to get raspberries.  I was prepared for a few hours of excessive complaining and misery, but actually, my helpers were helpful, and we got almost all the raspberries we needed in a short time.  They even had great attitudes while doing it!  It helped that the mosquitos were not out and the temperature was quite comfortable.

Right as we were paying for our raspberries, the man I was handing money to looked over and said, “Oh wait, I think you will want to see this.”  Apparently from time to time some friends of the raspberry farmers come to their farm and strap a very large propellor with a fuel tank to their back, hook themselves up to a glider parachute, and soar through the air.  He invited us to watch, and asked The Banana if she would help him film a little video clip to post to Facebook.

It was more than slightly crazy.  Our host child decided it was definitely not something she wanted to do ever.  She kept cringing as they got close to trees, thinking they were going to crash.  Mr. TOF was fascinated.  We stayed until the mosquitos started flying too.

Oh, I have always wanted to try this, Van Rays have one of these and Kent flys over the farm a few times each summer. What fun to see it up close like this! wish I had been there.
