Postcards: Visiting “Cloud Gate” (The Bean)
Finding and visiting “The Bean” was high on our list of things to do in Chicago. I knew it was somewhere around the Art Institute, and truth be told, we had no problem finding it. Actually, it was way more awesome than I anticipated. Because it was a beautiful sunny Sunday during the height of tourist season, there were many, many other tourists just like us clamoring about Cloud Gate, and that was just fine, to be expected. What I didn’t expect was for it to be as sleek as it was, and I didn’t realize that the reflection would morph as much as it did with just a few steps in any direction. It was amazing how the reflection on the ends was nothing like the middle, and it was downright silly underneath! It was so fun to see the cityscape reflected in curvy ways. Really, truly, this is a brilliant piece of interactive public art. I think I could probably spend the better part of the afternoon walking around and around it.
