A Few Tall Ships

I dropped Ya Ya and Mr. SP off at their Hartley nature camps (more on that in another post) this afternoon, and then The Banana and Squirmy and I headed down to Lake Superior to catch a glimpse of the tall ships coming into port for the Tall Ship Festival this weekend.  I didn’t know how the outing would go, but I love tall ships so much that I didn’t want to miss seeing them out on the lake in full sail.  My favorite part of a tall ship is seeing it glide around on the water with all of its sails up. so I made a point to avoid the enormous crowds down at the lift bridge and we viewed the extravaganza from the secret beach.  There weren’t too many people there, and all of them were very nice.   There are 8 tall ships in the harbor this weekend, but one was late arriving and missed the tall ship parade.  We managed to view six ships before The Banana insisted she needed a potty, and we were far, far, from any potty. Squirmy was getting squirmy, so I decided to abdicate with my gargantuan diaper bag and camera bag and little people in tow.

Here are a few of the ships.  I’m not sure which ship is which except that the one with the red sails is the Roseway.  I figured I was doing well enough just to get myself down to the beach to see the ships!  The last ship pictured is my very favorite.
