2010 Adventures in Soccer: Part One

Soccer season has begun.  Our first game was tonight.  I wasn’t sure if Mr. Sneaky Pants would choose soccer as one of his summer activities this year after last year’s tumultuous season, but he did.  Sometimes he has a positive attitude about it, and  sometimes he’s quite pessimistic, but it’s going well.  He’s learning a lot more about playing on a team and how the game of soccer works, and he’s met some new friends on his team.

Our team hit the field with a great deal of energy, and scored a lot of goals in the first half.  Mr. Sneaky Pants was pretty excited to kick in several goals right away:

The second half of the game was a little more difficult.  He was tired.  It was hard to focus.  He got floppier and fell down more, and that never makes him happy.

Someone bonked him in the arm or stepped on him or something, and Mr. SP was really not thrilled.  But after a quick tickle from Dr. Peds he was back in the running again.

Occasionally he’d take a little break to readjust his Samson hair, twisting it and braiding it and running his hands through it.  He still won’t let me cut it.

He spent some time watching the other team’s substitute players who were jumping on the sidelines with pom poms.

The other team had a great second half.  No one keeps score, (thank goodness)  and wasn’t it nice that each team had success at some point?

The most hilarious moment of the game was near the end.  Our coach gathered all the green team together to give them an encouraging pep talk and explain something to them, and all the maroon players noticed the huddle, and just ran over and joined in, making an enormous two team huddle.

You look good out their on the field. Wish Grandpa and Grandma could come and see you sometime. You will have to tell me how to play soccer. It has been a long time since I played soccer. Go SP.

    Noah,

Did you know that too much hair can slow you down on the field? Make sure you don’t grow it too long or pretty soon you won’t be able to score at all. Love you
