Weeble Wobble

My brother-in-law, Bryan, hauled this ancient, primitive jetski up from Iowa.  I’m not sure how he got it, and I think he fixed it up.  We called it the Weeble Wobble because it was nearly impossible to balance on when a person was riding it, but the second the rider fell off, the jetski would tip upright quickily and then keep on driving without it’s rider.   The weeble wobble did a lot of smoking and sputtering.

Bryan first demonstrated to Dr. Peds how to get up and ride across the water.  He fell a few times.  When Dr. Peds got on the machine, he rode about two dock-lenghts into the lake.  I knew he was going to fall, but when he nearly did a summersault in the air, I couldn’t help but to burst out into laughter.  It was really funny looking.  The weeble wobble didn’t run unless you rode it at top speed, so Dr. Peds and Bryan were both rather stiff and sore after hitting the water at 20 or 30 mph several times.

The second day at the cabin, the brave and determined Auntie Dot, who had been absent while Dr. Peds was conquering the weeble wobble, announced that if Bryan went through the trouble of bringing the weeble wobble all the way from Iowa, she would indeed at least try to ride it herself.  I think, quite possibly, she was planning on proving that she could do anything her big brothers could do.

In the late morning Bryan started up the weeble wobble.  All the kids were jumping around up and down in the water, excited for Auntie Dot to do some ridiculous falling.  In fact, everyone was gathered to watch.  Dot got on and immediately fell off.  Then she tried to get back on the machine for about ten minutes (no easy task, especially since you have to chase the thing to get on it.).  She fell, and fell and fell again.  At one point The Banana loudly asked, “Is she planning on falling off EVERY time?”

While none of Auntie Dot’s falls were quite as spetacular as Dr. Peds’, she definitely did the most falling.  She tried and tried and each time she could ride the weeble wobble just a few seconds longer, until at the end, she was able to go all the way around the reeds at the end of the dock.  Talk about perseverant.  When she finally landed back on shore, she was so exhausted and sore she was literally stumbling across the grass to the cabin.
