Learned in February

  • I’ve been pronouncing the word “debacle” wrong. My husband gleefully pointed it out to me, and I’m trying to change.
  • I tried cross country skiing for the first time on a very flat lake. It went alright, and I actually didn’t fall at all. I can see the appeal of the activity, but I would definitely need some practice to be able to swish through the snow. I don’t think I’d ever get very fast at it, but I do think it would be a great way to enjoy the forest in the winter.
  • Traditional basket snowshoes are crazy slippery. Good grief.
  • Good news! Having someone come to sand and refinish your hardwood floors does not create anywhere near the amount of dust I was prepared for.
  • I saw a pilea plant at the COOP grocery store and did a little reading about it, learning how to care for it and about this houseplant’s history as a houseplant, but by the time I got back to the grocery store to purchase a pilea of my very own, they had disappeared to other homes.
  • At the Piano I learned a Three Part Invention by J. S. Bach and a Scarlatti Sonata, fitting pieces for someone who has been a bit swamped and has had limited practice time over the past few weeks.
  • I have learned so much about deaf culture from The Banana’s history day project which she will be finishing this week.
