Robotics Competition
I spent quite a bit of time watching the robotics competition last weekend, and while our robot didn’t fare as well as hoped, I found watching the robotics teams quite entertaining. There was always something to watch, whether it was the match itself, or the flurry of movement between matches while teams moved robots onto and off of the field. It was fun to watch fans cheer enthusiastically for their robot, and I was amazed at how fast the scores could be calibrated and posted, even when there were some complicated scenarios that required the officials to extensively delve into the rules.
I really enjoyed getting to see how all the different teams designed their robots, and how each robot approached the skills a little differently. They were so fast! It was particularly fun to watch the semi finals and the championship match to see how the leading robots chose the robots that would join their alliance, and how they strategized together.
On Friday I watched robots by myself, but on Saturday morning after The Banana finished being judged at History Day, she and Mr. TOF joined me until we had to leave for baseball and the History Day awards ceremony. We all had such a good time! In fact, both of them asked to come back in the afternoon to see the semi-finals and finals. In the end The Banana, who had been up until 2:00 a.m. for multiple days in a row working on History Day opted for a nap after she was all done with history for the day. Mr. TOF begged and begged to return to see more robots, so we did. It turns out he’s a superfan.
