2020 Sunday Night at the Beach: The May Edition

It was Sunday, and since we no longer have a virtual youth chorus rehearsal, we were able to head to the beach! Upon arriving at the Secret Beach, the shoreline of which had again changed greatly through the big fall and winter storms we had last year, one sibling took off to the northeast, and three siblings took off to the southwest looking for sea glass and exploring coves and crevices. I stayed put on a big rock and enjoyed the scenery.

After a bit The Devious Snail returned and picked up his book to do a little reading.

It took a long time for the youngest two to walk back, but when they arrived they had pockets full of amazing sea glass pieces.

At this point The Devious Snail was chilly and ready to go home, but the two youngest siblings had ideas about going swimming, and the eldest sibling decided she would join them. The Banana and Mr. TOF were already half wet from looking for sea glass and exploring, so they decided to just go in wearing their clothes. YaYa found an old swimsuit in the bag of towels, so she changed quick, determined to join them. She didn’t want her shoes to get wet, so she borrowed Mr. TOF’s galoshes, which were already soaked.

The water, of course, was cold. It’s always cold, but it feels extra special cold in May. The Banana was the first to get in to acclimate. YaYa joined her, but had to keep getting out of the water and then back in again because it was so cold.

While his sisters were just standing around, Mr. TOF ran in like a canon and completely went under, and then ran out. The victory of the first person completely submerged was undisputedly his, and he relished the victory!

YaYa left the water again, but The Banana, not to be outdone, was quick to follow her little brother’s lead. She came up with her eye on the prize, her “Chicken Little” big sister.

The Chase was on.

That was a VERY cold hug.

It was followed by the squeezing of a long blonde, wet ponytail on a warm, dry back.

For the record, YaYa did work up to completely submerging as well. It just took quite a long time. Then I herded up the shivering bodies and drove them home for warm showers.
