Some Things I Learned in January

  • My learning buddy and I learned all about the game of cesta punta (or jai alai).
  • At the piano I learned two movements of a Beethoven sonata and began working on the third movement. It’s been a fun winter musical project. I still have a lot polishing to do.
  • I relearned all the countries of Africa on the map with my learning buddy. I know that I probably mentioned learning this a few months ago with The Banana, but guess, what? The map of Africa has an ability to disappear from my brain at a rapid rate. It has always been my most difficult map. When Mr. TOF started learning Africa this January, I had to relearn it along with him. (He has it down, by the way!)
  • I don’t watch TV. I don’t watch movies. I don’t really watch anything if I can help it, and I don’t think I’ve ever sat and watched a Congressional debate on a screen. This month I learned what it would take to disturb me to the point of propelling me to be glued to the computer listening to senators speak late into the night.
  • My learning buddy and I researched Zuma rock in Nigeria and The Citatel in Egypt. I didn’t know anything about either one until this month.
  • At the cello I’m learning some new things in thumb position and working on better left hand shifting. I learned the first movement of a Golterman Concerto and part of the second movement, but learned is a loose word here, because even though I technically learned it, the music is not consisted yet. Again, I have a lot of polishing work to do.
  • Eleanor of Aquitaine was QUITE the lady. I personally find her very fascinating.
  • Weighted chess pieces make the game so much more enjoyable, but I still loose almost every time. That’s OK.
  • Dvorak’s main instrument was the viola. My viola player is a big fan of Dvorak these days.
