I am NOT loving the incredibly intense and unseasonable heat wave we have been suffering under for the last few days, but I AM loving the east wind that blew in across The Lake late this afternoon causing the temperature to literally plummet 40 degrees in 15 minutes from 97 to 57. Unfortunately the east wind isn’t going to last forever and the heat is going to return tomorrow, but let me tell you, it was like going from the oven to the refrigerator! I like the refrigerator better. The temperatures have been on some kind of crazy bungee-cord roller coaster for the last three weeks, swinging from too hot to be comfortable to freezing cold (bring all the plants that can move inside) and back and forth. It’s been a wild ride.
I am loving blooming bushes and wildflowers.
I have been cherishing my late evening walks. I really, really appreciate extra hours of daylight this time of year. I just want to bottle them up and take them out in the winter.
I have been back teaching music at a preschool the past couple of months, and I am loving all the excitement from the little people there. Bonus: every time I leave I get 10 or 12 squeezy hugs. I love kids!
Our libraries have been slowly opening more and more! I have said all along that getting to go to the library was probably one of the very biggest things our family missed during the times we were restricted for the pandemic. We are all so happy to be able to go and pick books off the shelves! Mr. TOF is very excited to now have his very own library card and be in charge of getting his own library books in the library and doing is own book requesting on the computer.
I splurged and used some Christmas money that I had been gifted to get new linen bedding for summer. It is a deep, rich purple, and arrived this week. I love it! Dr. Peds says it feels like sleeping on sandpaper, but I read all about linen bedding and how it softens up delightfully. Even if it doesn’t soften, I still love it. It literally took me six months of contemplating about what bedding to purchase, so it is a great thing that I love it so much.
Dr. Peds got me this butter knife, and it’s everything I ever wanted a butter knife to be. He’s been trying to find the right spreader knife for me for years. We do not have the same taste in spreading knives. Typically I just spread things with the knives in the silverware drawer, which drives him nuts. He finally found success when “looked for the butter knife he himself would most hate to use.” I have really enjoyed using it.
Last week Field Trip Frenzy began in our tiny homeschool. Mr. TOF and I have been enjoying visiting all sorts of fun museums, like the aquarium (to practice animal classification) and Glensheen (we studied Minnesota and Duluth history extensively throughout the year). We are looking forward to next week with several more outings planned.
