Some Things I Have Been Loving

  • This fall I have noticed so many blue jays swooping around on my walks in the forest and near the forest, and even in the neighborhood. I always enjoy blue jays. I love their shade of blue, and I enjoy that they are sometimes a little salty and aggressive.
  • My friend Siri sent a package this week with a magnetic sleeper for Peanut Maximus. It is the bee’s knees! Peanut Maximus wore it for 48 hours straight because I couldn’t bear to take it off him. Instead of a zipper there are magnets that hold the opening in the front closed, and it is a dream for diaper changes. Plus, the sleeper is stripey and velvety, and it takes cozy to a whole new level. Seriously, every baby sleeper should be made with magnets.
  • I have been back at teaching music lessons for three full weeks now, and I’m loving that I get to see my students again. I love being a mom. I also love teaching. It is so good for my brain and makes me so happy.
  • I saved my Ergo baby carrier way back from when The Banana was a baby, and I was so proud of myself. I love carrying babies on my front and on my back when they are older, and I love my worn and loved Ergo. However, the old Ergo I have is made for older babies, not little squishy ones, so this fall I purchased a little insert for it so I could use it for Peanut Maximus when I went hiking and tromping through the forest. The insert worked, but his head didn’t always seem optimally supported. Through a crazy series of events, Dr. Peds, always wanting to improve things that aren’t working like they potentially could work, ended up with two used but much newer Ergo carriers, and let me tell you, they are a dream! He has one set up for him and I have one set up for me, and I am amazed at all the little improvements. It’s so comfortable, even for super long hikes and hanging around the house, and Peanut Maximus is so much better supported in it.
  • I am so happy that road construction season has ended! This summer we were hedged into our neighborhood in every direction by major road construction projects on all the artery roads we use all the time, and it made for the most inconvenient driving situation imaginable. Trips that normally took seven minutes sometimes took 37 minutes, and I am not exaggerating. I am so happy that getting places is more efficient.
  • One of the intersections that we use all the time turned into a round-about, which I was very skeptical of because I usually hate round-abouts. I normally find them extremely confusing, but this one is designed very simply, and all the hype about traffic moving through a round-about more quickly did end up being true. At the times when there normally is a long line of cars backed up at this intersection, which had formerly been a four way stop, there is no backup at all. I’m impressed.
  • These Zutano booties are truly the best solution for baby feet I’ve ever encountered. We love ours.
  • We have had some amazing sunsets this autumn season. A few days ago the clouds reflected the sunset in a fabulous way that ended up reflecting a rainbow of colors in every direction from horizon to horizon. It was special. I’m glad I looked outside to catch it.
  • Mr. Trouble on Feet and I have been enjoying eating chicken with wild rice and carrots. We’ve been throwing it all in a cast iron pot and baking it in the oven, and it has made for an easy and yummy dinner on busy nights.
  • I am memorizing the first verses of 60 hymns (16 down so far) to sing to Peanut Maximus when he is fussy. Singing through all the ones I’ve memorized so far has been a grounding experience each day.
  • I LOVE that The Banana is a fully licensed driver! I’ve been sending her everywhere with my van to do all sorts of errands and pick-up and drop-offs. It’s so great!
