From the Window: SnowHenge 3 Rises

My neighbor has been building this third SnowHenge for several weeks. First there was a firm foundation, then blocks forming a circular wall at least 8 feet tall all around his fire pit. This past Friday he was out with a friend adding on an arched entrance. I love it so much! The tradition began during the pandemic, when it became a winter gathering place for friends to socialize. The snow wall insulates the heat from the fire and blocks the wind, and it turns into a toasty little outdoor room on a bitter cold day. The creation gets fancier every year.

The sound of a chainsaw in the summer season makes me nauseated because a tree in the vicinity is coming down or getting chopped up, but the sound of a chainsaw slicing compacted snow into oversized bricks makes me smile.

These two were out for hours sawing, slicing and leveling snow into the perfect building material, and they celebrated with a fire Friday evening when the arch was complete.

I love where I live.
