Rowing Regatta

Come along to the rowing regatta! I volunteered to take pictures as things were happening for our rowing team during the first part of the regatta, and as a bonus, I have lots of pictures of my two rowers to share. I loved getting to be close to all the action of boats going in and boats going out . . . zip zip zoom. So many nice, hardworking kids end up doing rowing, and the people watching was fun too. Taking pictures was a good parental volunteer choice for me, much better than dealing with food in the concessions area, or doing something important that I could have really messed up.

Mr. TOF was scheduled to be in a boys 8, but he ended up also substituting in a quad also. The Banana stroked fast 8, 4 and quad boats. She was scheduled to be in a single also, but that race was cancelled because of wind and waves. That was good in a way because it would have been too tough to be in the single with the water conditions, but also a little disappointing because The Banana worked super hard at learning how to row a single all week. She even went to evening row several days to get extra practice. Singles are hard, and she flipped a few times. Learning how to get back in the boat on the water is tricky too, and she ended up with MASSIVE bruises on her leg. On regatta day she traced around the crazy bruise and called it her “Island of purple power.” She’s never been one to shy away from bruises obtained from being active. It sure makes people ask questions, though!

It was SUPER DUPER hot and humid on regatta day, and I literally was sweating buckets all day, and I wasn’t even rowing, so I have no clue how they all could be rowing so hard and fast. I reapplied sunscreen four times, but kept sweating it off, and still ended up with a sunburn. I think there were probably a lot of people with sunburns by the end of the day.

My rowers are all in for rowing season this year. There is so much rowing talk at my house that I think YaYa feels a little left out some of the time.
