Diva Girl

One of The Banana’s favorite things to do lately is to play choir.  Usually this involves lining up kid sized chairs in front of the fire place, and seating stuffed animals on the chairs.  Then The Banana crawls up on the step in front of the fireplace with a picture book or even better yet, a chapter book (more pages to turn) and sings and sings and sings.  Sometimes she asks me to join her up there on the step.  I can’t help but join in.  I do love singing in a good choir, you know.  Occasionally she’ll ask me to step down and be the assistant director.  Then my job involves “waving arms” to direct the choir.  She likes the conducting pattern for 4/4 time the best.

Wednesday morning The Banana came to me dressed up her sister’s sundress from two years ago, professional white tights and sparkly red shoes.  “I need to you to put my hair up.  I’m the soloist today.”  What?  The soloist?  Someone is just a true diva at heart, that’s all I can say.  I put her hair up and she grabbed a chapter book from her choir bag, a cloth bag where she stores several chapter books so she always has them on hand when called upon to sing, and proceeded to stand in front of the radio, tuned to Minnesota Classical Public Radio, and join in with all the choirs singing Christmas Carols.  She sang for hours.  Really.  It kept her busy all morning.
