At the piano I have been busy with pieces by Schumann and Debussy, a lyric piece by Grieg, and I should be finishing up my 100 day practice project, a Chopin etude in a few days. I’m starting to learn a Beethoven sonata as well as part of a sonata by Grieg.
Now that we are nearing the last big fancy dance that The Banana will attend (prom, this Saturday) I have officially learned that no matter how far in advance you encourage fashion planning, there is just automatically going to be a lot of dress stress. Anticipate it.
I learned to clean the gunk out of the kitchen faucet all by myself! Now I can experience excellent water pressure whenever I want. The kidlets and I are legitimately so excited about this! Because the pipes in our house are old, bits of rock and junk end up in the faucet filter, and when it accumulates it can take FOREVER to fill something at the sink.
Speaking of kitchen appliances, I ALSO learned how to clean the dishwasher drain below the drain filter all by myself. This necessary action was prompted by a drain warning that inhibited the dishwasher from working. Again, there were little bits of rocks in there. I’m on a roll. Just call me Mrs. Fix-it! Or not. Both things took me forever to figure out, and if Dr. Peds were home they would have been quickly resolved.
I discovered the composer Jonathan Leshnoff. I can’t seem to get enough of his orchestral writing lately.
A few weeks ago I attended a performance of the Bach Goldberg Variations by Angela Hewitt, and in just listening to her speak for ten minutes before she started playing, I learned so, so much about Bach’s writing for keyboard instruments. It was such a magical performance, too. Breathtaking.
I learned that I can, if pressed, drive my van on the freeway around Minneapolis/St. Paul. It was scary, and my hands were actually sore from gripping the steering wheel so hard, but I did it for the first time ever. It helped that no one was in the car to distract me. I took many, many deep breaths.
