2026 Sunday Night at the Beach: Edition 6

It was so incredibly hot, and we actually had full intentions of swimming. Unfortunately the water did not cooperate with us, because it was remarkably colder than normal. All the warmish surface water was blown to the other shore, and the cold water from the deep middle of the lake came rushing over to the Minnesota shoreline. The weather service even posted a warning about how cold the water was (barely above freezing) while the air temperatures were close to a hundred degrees with humidity. It was the kind of cold your body can only stand for a couple of minutes, and then you are in so much pain you have to exit, truly. Swimming did not really happen, but halfway through our time at the beach, our neighbors from at the top of the hill joined us along with their dog, and eventually The Banana and their girls did zoom in for a quick dunk in the water. The dog was not so much a fan of swimming either, but he seemed to like snuggling up in his special doggie bathrobe.
Mr. TOF brought along a book to read, and The Banana does calculus at every spare moment these days, so calculus came a long too.
Skipping rocks was a constant this evening, and someone lost/left a floaty tube, so that was exciting to play with too.
Every once in a while a little breeze would come off the cold water, and it was lovely and refreshing. We stayed a long, long time because we knew that when we opened the car door back at the top of the hill it would feel like a tropical forest again.
