Recent Banana Art

I recently purchased My Very First Art Book by Usborne Publishers, along with 365 Things to Draw and Paint by Fionna Watt.  The art projects in both books are the kind of open ended projects that I love to have the kidlets working on, and they are presented in an eyecatching, engaging way that invites getting messy and trying new things.  I loved both books when I first picked them up, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much the kidlets like them and have been using them.  Mr. Sneaky Pants is somewhat of a reluctant pencil user.  He gets easily frustrated when what he’s drawing or writing on paper doesn’t come out like what he envisioned.  He latched onto a few pages of sea creatures, robots, castles and things of that sort in the art books and suddenly he’s confidently drawing all sorts of things in so much detail!  It is so exciting.  I really love how both books give ideas and good starting points without being so step-by-step that art just turns into copying.

The Banana drew this cat and turtle last week on some big pieces of paper while we were sitting on the couch together.  I really love the turtle.
