It’s a really, really good thing I like freshly fallen snow.
Yesterday morning the big kidlets had dentist appointments. I’m glad the waiting room is painted a cheerful yellow. When we finally managed to leave the house, everyone freshly showered with sparkling teeth, things went well. It’s just LEAVING the house that sends me over the edge. Everyone had healthy teeth. Squirmy spent the hour in the waiting room crawling all around and entertaining all the other people in the waiting room. His favorite thing was to try to crawl through the door in the direction of the dentist. As soon as he got to the threshold, one of my big kidlets would drag him back to the other corner and he’d start the trek all over again. This allowed me to crochet a washcloth. Mr. Sneaky Pants was over the moon excited about getting a rubber lizard for a “treat” from the dentist. The Banana was quite taken with her new pink princess toothbrush.
I’m in a creative slump. I’ve been there for weeks.
I have piles of kidlet artwork on my desk to mail to people.
I tried to make popcorn on the stove last Monday. I vastly overestimated the time it would take the oil in the pan to heat up (before I added the popcorn) and got distracted helping a kidlet in the kitchen, when suddenly a fire, a leaping flames kind of fire, burst out of my cooking pan! Yikes! Panic! Those of you who know my tendency to panic and have major anxiety over fire, can only imagine the situation. The kidlets in the area where frightened out of their bones and wailing like crazy. Luckily I kept calm enough to grab the pan. I was debating about rushing it outside into the snow, when I realized I’d have to crawl over the distraught kidlets to reach the door. Instead I rushed it to the sink. The flames got taller, but I managed to get the water on and snuff the whole thing out just like that. I’m not sure if it was actually the water or if all the oil actually burned up at that moment, but either way I was terribly relieved that the episode was over.
YaYa suggested that maybe we should just give all the unpopped popcorn kernels to a neighbor and not ever try to make popcorn again, but to my credit, I tried again right then, after I cleaned up all the soot off the kitchen cupboards and opened all the windows in the house. The popcorn was delicious: salty and buttery. It made me think of the popcorn bags I used to be so excited to buy from the music boosters selling popcorn at basketball games when I was a little girl.
I would really like to take pictures of my childhood bookmobile. Is that thing still on the go? Is there a new bookmobile? Has the era of Kidder County Bookmobile service ended?
The bookmobile is still here. It is a newer model, but looks alot like it. The lady that used to come along, comes in the bank every once in a awhile. When you make the trek home for easter, you should stop in and we could see if they are here that day.
Get a small fire extinguisher and keep it near the stove….and, in a pinch, sprinkling from a box of soda will smother flames quickly.
You did fine keeping your wits about you……its all a learning
process. love you much. Like the way you got back on that horse!!!
