Random Things

  • Yesterday it was 102 degrees in Minneapolis.  It was 62 degrees at my house.  It was 55 degrees next to the lake with a very, very strong east wind whipping up the waves into a lovely green-blue surf that sparkled in the sun and crashed onto the beaches.  Can I tell you HOW much I love where I live!  That Great Lake is just amazing.  We were out doing errands and I realized how strong the wind was (our house is quite protected from an east wind).  I caught a glimpse of whitecaps down on the lake, and so we all took a quick trip to the beach after school.  I was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt with mitten cuffs, and the wind chill was enough to make me nearly cold.  You do, of course, remember that I don’t exaggerate being cold.  It has to really feel cold before I’ll say that it is cold.  Unbelievable.
  • There is only ONE day of school left after today!  The kidlets are ready for a little break.
  • Mr. SP continues to spout facts about Yellowstone at an amazing rate.  He cannot wait to go.  The Banana is less excited.  She’s afraid of bears.  I tried explaining that there are bears all over in Northern Minnesota, so it isn’t anything unusual for us.  I tried explaining that bears don’t like to listen to people talk, that talking scares them away and that she talks ALL the time therefore I’m pretty sure we won’t be startling any bears.  She remains skeptical.
  • The used book sale at the library is next week!  I’m gearing up.
  • I have my eye on floor to ceiling bookshelves for an entire wall in the living room.  Dr. Peds thinks it is a great idea, but I haven’t gotten up the courage to purchase them yet.  We are in dire need of more bookshelf space.
  • I’m trying to decide what color to paint the front entryway.  Decisions do not come easy for me, especially paint decisions.  I think about it and get overwhelmed and stop thinking about it.  I have decided that the paint will not be:  green, orange, grey, or brown.  And probably not blue.
  • Tonight my piano students (and Sarah) have a recital.  I am so excited that they are all so very well prepared.  It has been a wonderful year of piano students.  I just love seeing each student each week.  Some amazing things have happened with several students, and they’ve all grown musically throughout the year.  I always get a bit nervous on recital days even though I’m not playing.
  • My flowers are planted!  It was the most stressful flower planting experience ever.  Squirmy was NOT a fan of sitting in the stroller watching me plant flowers.  The big kidlets would wheel him around the yard to keep him happy, but sometimes they’d park the stroller and forget about Squirmy.  Squirmy was also not a fan of that, as you can probably imagine.  Once the stroller tipped over (He was OK).  Another time he managed to get out of the buckle.  (I discovered him in the nick of time).  Sarah tried playing with him in the grass, which made him madder than ever.  I was really starting to wonder if the flowers were worth the trouble, but this morning it is so nice to look out on the deck and see them cheering things up.
