A Long Weekend of Kazoo

Fuzzykazoostamp

Last Friday Sarah sang "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" along with the rest of the first grade classes at her school who performed three times during the day  as part of the holiday concert.  In the middle of the piece, there was an interlude for kazoos, so the 90 first graders whipped out their little plastic kazoos and went to town.  It was quite humorous.  They were really, really having fun with their kazoos.

As an added bonus, after the last performance of the day, they got to bring their kazoos HOME with them. (Something that their teachers were no doubt thrilled about).  So, all weekend I was treated to hearing every Christmas carol known to first graders played on the kazoo at top volume.  The joy just kept going.  And going.  And going.  And to make things more exciting, Sarah was accompanied on her kazoo by Mr. Sneaky Pants and The Banana on monotone recorders, blown in the most shrill manner possible because Noah was SO INSPIRED by hearing the fourth and fifth graders play recorders at the concert.

My trio of musicians marched throughout every corner of my house in a little seasonal parade.  It kept them busy during the long and fierce blizzard, and the extra day off from school that resulted.

I now am beginning to understand why my mom always made me play my kazoo on the deck.

I received the CD today of the songs from school and the Church program. How wonderful to hear how good they sound. The Kazoo is the most interesting Jolly Old St Nick I’ve heard all year. Make sure to tell Sarah how much Gramma loved it.

Forgot, tell Greg how excited I am to be the owner of the talking Christmas tree. I was kidding when I said sure I want one. Think I can regift it to some sucker? Maybe Auntie Joni? She reads this you know.

The only thing worse than a first grader kazoo-ing at top volume is a 55 year old mother doing the same, except she only play 2 songs: “Hark the Herald Angels” and “We wish you a Merry Christmas.” I made the mistake of buying her a book on kazoo-ing as a joke for Christmas, and it came with a kazoo. I am already regretting it!!
