Easter Egg Hunt: Harry Potter Style

The kidlets were dying to have another Easter egg hunt Sunday afternoon, and well, since it was Easter after all, we said OK.  We sent them outside to run around like maniacs while we filled up the plastic eggs with pennies, quarters, and coupons.  Dr. Peds and I looked at each other and then got the brilliant idea of filling some eggs up with really, great things, like a dollar bill and an arrowhead and a LEGO minifigure genie, and then we filled a few eggs with things like a rubber bands.  Dr. Peds filled one egg with vaseline (useful for chapped lips, but, well just down right strange to find in an Easter egg).  It kind of reminded us of those jelly beans in the Harry Potter books.  You never quite know what you’re going to get . . . could be something really amazingly great and it might be a vomit flavored jelly bean.

We told the kidlets they could find 8 eggs, and that trading was allowed at the end when they opened the eggs.  There was joyful screeching around the yard as they collected the eggs, and then the fun began.

My kidlets are huge, HUGE fans of coupons.  The coupons were for things like:  30 minutes of extra computer time, downloading an audiobook onto the iPod, picking out a special snack at the grocery store, watching a movie, getting out of doing chores for an entire day, and Dr. Peds stuck a mean one in:  getting to tickle Mom for one entire minute.  I was not so excited about that.  The coupon that elicited the most excitement was getting to borrow a pair of Mom’s socks for the whole day.  You just never know what is going to be appreciated around here.

Mr. Sneaky Pants got the arrowhead AND the LEGO genie.  He was so incredibly thrilled.

YaYa ended up with the blue egg filled with vaseline.  She couldn’t quite believe it.

Fervent trading of tokens, currency and coupons took place, and I was doubled up with laughter pretty much the whole time.  YaYa tried to trade the vaseline egg to her chapstick loving sister, but she sort of turned up her nose and the big sister was left with the prize.  Mr. SP and The Banana said it was the best egg hunt ever.  YaYa mentioned that it was certainly creative.

Fantastic !!! Thanks for the new ideas. My coupons seem pretty tame. I’m going to have to be more creative next time 🙂
