The Banana Discovers Chalk and a Ramble about Garage Sales

Because it wasn’t raining yesterday morning (we’ve had a lot of that rainy weather, NOT that I’m complaining . . . I love rain) we carried out an ice cream bucket of brand new sidewalk chalk to the driveway. The Banana was quite entranced. For the longest time she just sat with the bucket between her knees and picked up one chalk after the next, admiring it and drawing a few random lines in front of her before moving on to the next dusty hue. Sarah drew several rocket ships and a pirate boat, and Noah was just FRUSTRATED because no one was drawing him anything, and he didn’t want to draw something for himself.

The Banana spotted this crocheted hat at a garage sale for a quarter last Saturday and even though it’s almost too small, I couldn’t resist getting it for a quarter. She is truly the hat and shoes gal. She could care less about toys for the most part, but heaven forbid you separate her from textiles and foot apparel. She’s been ramming the new pink hat on her noggin for the past few days.

And did I mention I am so excited for garage sale season! Ooooh I just love looking through other people’s junk for treasures! Cheap treasures! Cheap treasures that might be headed for the dump I don’t rescue them. The kids are super excited too, because they know I will splurge buy them things at garage sales unlike regular shopping venues. Last Saturday, for instance we found: a dress for Sarah, a shark T-shirt for Mr. Sneaky Pants the Scuba Diver, a pair of cute jeans for Sarah, a pink sweater for Sarah, a fleece sweatshirt for Sarah, a raincoat for Mr. SP (something he’s been asking about for months), two hats for the Banana, a few books, and a small kids rug printed with roads in perfect condition. They’ve been playing cars nonstop when they’ve been indoors, all for less than $10! Woohoo! I can’t wait for this weekend.
