Cutting Down the Christmas Tree

Tree

Saturday was Christmas tree cutting day a nearby patch of forest.  Dr. Peds and I had so much fun last year, we decided to make it a tradition.  Mr. Sneaky Pants and The Banana had been looking forward to the day for several weeks.  They were so excited to put up a Christmas tree again, especially Mr. SP, who had fond memories of using an ax last year.  (The big item on his Christmas List this year is a battle ax). Ya Ya was not excited about the outing and very grumpy, but it helped to bring her very good friend from down the street, who is just a gem of a friend.

After having a real tree last year, I couldn't bear to look at that hideous artificial tree again, so this year we decided to cut down a tree for the living room and the family room.  It's hard to pass up on a real genuine tree for only $12.  You can choose any tree you want . . . big or little and the price doesn't change.

The weather was a perfect 25 degrees!  We trooped through the forest.  We didn't go too far because we knew we had to work somewhat quickly before the kidlets lost interest and the prospect of carrying the trees a long way out of the forest wasn't overly exciting.

We found a small, 8 foot tree for the living room, and then choose an ENORMOUS 12 foot tree for the cabin room which has a really high ceiling on one side.  Both are magnificent.  The really big tree takes up a BIG chunk of the room.  We had to temporarily move out and rearrange quite a bit of furniture.  I LOVE it.  Dr. Peds says he might have to hold me back a bit next year, or at least trim parts of the wild and crazy tree since it bonks into him when he's sitting on the futon.

He was so excited to be in charge of the ax and use it.  It made him so happy.

At the entrance to the forest there was cocoa, cookies and a roaring warm fire to enjoy.  The Banana was very entranced with the notion.

We came home, cooked noodles and cheese with hamburger and peas for the troops and then had fun decorating the tree. It was classic.  Three or four of the branches held nearly all of the ornaments, and they were almost all at exactly preschool eye level.  I sneakily shifted a few into other places so the tree wouldn't topple over.  We're actually not quite finished decorating still.  We ran out of paper clip hooks.  Hopefully we'll be done today.
