Our Thankful Tree

It’s most certainly NOT an original idea, as thankful trees are all over the internet, but I am so happy that this project that I’ve been wanting to do for a couple of years actually got done this year!  And we all really liked it, so I am hoping it can become somewhat of a tradition during the Thanksgiving season.  Really, it wasn’t hard to do and didn’t take long when I finally decided that I was just going to do it even though I had tons of other stuff on my To Do list this week.  I simply walked out the back door to the brush pile and grabbed a few branches. My husband loves to prune things ( and I hate to have things pruned . . . that’s a whole blog post of itself, I’m afraid) so there were plenty of branches to choose from and it only took a few minutes to find a couple of good ones.  I brought them in the house and stuck them in a vase on the table.

The tree was rather large.  My husband offered to prune it.  Ho hum.

I quickly used a stamp and some purple ink to decorate some shipping tags.  Each person got five tags to write on, and then we attached them to the tree.

Some of my favorite tags:

  • Bopping (Mr. TOF)
  • Num Nums (Mr. TOF)
  • !!!!!!! FOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!  (Mr. SP, and yes, there were that many exclamation points.  That kid loves to eat.)
  • Books (The Banana and Mr. SP)
  • Computers  (Mr. SP)
  • Emma (YayYa . . . Emma is her super great friend and appreciated by all of us, especially Mr. TOF who has a major crush on her)
  • God and Jesus (The Banana)
  • Neighbors (The Banana)
  • Electrolytes (Dr. Peds)

I actually didn’t get to write on my tags because The Banana loved doing it so much that the next day she said, “Mom, can I have more tags?  I thought of some more things to write down.”  How could I say no?  I gave her my tags with the intention of making some more, but then never got around to actually making my own.
