Powder Snow

I took these images a week ago, actually, after several days of powdery, lake effect snow.  Lake effect snow always feels different to me, fluffier and special.  Since then we’ve had a bigger snowfall of wet heavy snow that packed in on a warmer day this week and then froze into an icy sheen, so things are much crunchier.

On the afternoon that we took these images I kicked everyone outside to do some quick shoveling and then kept the complainers out extra long to play in the snow.  They were not happy at first, but eventually things turned around and they had a great time sledding down the front lawn, making beautiful snow angels, and tossing that powdery goodness into the air and watching it fall in the glint of the setting sun.
