Costumes

The weather has been so beautiful the last few days that I’ve been letting everyone play in their costumes, mainly because I wanted to take some pictures outside, but also because playing in my costume was my favorite part of Halloween when I was little. Sarah is dressing as a Pioneer Settler. She’s wearing a costume that used to be mine! My mother sewed the beautiful blue dress for me when I was nine because our town celebrated its 75th birthday and there were lots of festivities. Everyone wore old time dresses and there were parades and all sorts of exciting things happening as lots of people came back to the area to celebrate. I remember being soooooo excited about getting to wear this dress every day of the festivities, and riding on a hay wagon in the parades in town. I remember anxiously awaiting the celebration and nearly crawling out of my skin with anticipation to wear the fancy blue dress and sunbonnet. Since Sarah is only five, the dress is somewhat large for her, but we did a little new-sew remedy and pinned up the skirt with a lot of safety pins, and I think it will work nicely. She’s very excited.

Mr. Sneaky Pants will be attending all Halloween functions dressed as Auntie Dot’s puppy, Jana (pronounced Yanna). While wearing his costume, he has made it clear that he should be referred to only by the name Jana, and the more we speak to him in a puppy voice, the better. He has been enjoying retrieving imaginary frisbees and digging imaginary holes to bury imaginary bones. He’s been known to give a few puppy kisses when they are least expected. Wet, slobbery puppy kisses.

The Banana will be waddling around like a small duck. She’s cute. She’s fluffy. She’s irrisistible in all fashions except for her very drippy nose. She’s cutting several more big teeth in the back this week.

I have more costume pictures to post soon. Stay tuned.
