  • Last week, along with some incredibly delicious zucchini muffins, I experimented with a recipe called “morning muffins” and baked the most disgusting muffins I’ve ever eaten.  I literally took a bite and gagged.  I’ve determined that shredded carrots do not belong in muffins.  All of the kidlets tried them just to see how terrible they were, and then we threw them out.
  • We were walking on the street next to our house.  “Be safe!  Stay on the edge!”  I told my kidlets.  Mr. SP stomped over to the edge, furious, and yelled at me, “You’re just saying that because you don’t want to go to jail!”  Some days a person just can’t win around here.
  • Is there anything better than reading countless picture books to your tiny preschooler, snuggled next to you while  he gradually nods off to sleep and zonks into dreamland?  I love it when little kids fall asleep to a good book.
  • We drove home from church and parked the car in the driveway.  I looked over and saw a squirrel bounding across the grass, carrying something in its mouth.  It paused.  Is that a hot dog?  I asked myself.  It was!  The squirrel had a full size hot dog in it’s jaws, and when it bounced away down the length of our grass and up a tree, we were all giggling.  It was the most ridiculous looking thing.  Where he got the hot dog, I’m not sure.  We hadn’t eaten hot dogs recently, so apparently he robbed one of my neighbors.
  • We’ve begun to pick up our CSA fruit share from Bayfield each Wednesday, and we are loving our strawberries!  Last week we also picked up our big boxes of strawberries too.  Some of those berries we freeze for smoothies all year long, and I also made several batches of my very favorite tart rhubarb strawberry jam with some rhubarb I brought home from North Dakota.  Thanks,Mom!
  • We pick up our CSA box each Wednesday after YaYa’s oboe lesson, and then head to the farmer’s market, which has begun to have Wednesday afternoon hours this year.  I’m very excited about that because I never remember to get up and go to the farmer’s market in the morning, but since we are already out of the house on Wednesday afternoons, we can just zip over there and pick up some fresh vegetables.  Not only do they taste better than the grocery store, but I think they might actually be cheaper too.  We also discovered that there are some people at the market who bake bread, and since it happens to be incredibly delicious bread, we have plans of getting there frequently for the rest of the summer.
