Supper on the Floor

To combat the February doldrums, this afternoon Dr. Peds took Ms. Crazy Preschooler and Destructoman outside to play. It’s cold. The temperature isn’t bad, but the wind is raw, and they didn’t last that long. When they came in about a half hour later, I decided that today would be a good day to play with shredded wheat. I dumped two Walmart generic bags of shredded wheat into a plastic under-the-bed box and we gathered up all the “dump dirts” in the house. I suspected that this might be a popular activity, but I had no idea, really.

I’ve never seen two kids eat so much shredded wheat. They ate shredded wheat nonstop for an hour straight, like cookie monster. It was better than candy to them. They loaded dump trucks and then unloaded them into their mouths. Shredded wheat kept them quiet and busy for more than an hour, and turned into supper to boot. I don’t know how they could have eaten anything else. By the time they were done they had consumed more than a giant bag of shredded wheat. I gave them a glass of milk and called it good. Dr. Peds and I had some leftover knephla soup after they were in bed.
