Weekend at the Cabin: The Funniest Greeting Ever

Every year in August we spend a week with my husband’s family at the lake cabin in the middle of Minnesota.  It’s one of the most anticipated events of summer for all the kidlets in this house:  long days of pure fun with cousins.  However, going to the cabin requires quite a bit of preparation.  There is food to bake and organize, suitcases to pack along with life jackets, a kayak, the paddle board, fishing gear, stuff that needs to be distributed to family members, blankets and pillows, and other stuff too.  It takes a long time to get everything ready.  It takes a long time to load everything in the car.  It’s a long drive to the lake cabin, and everyone is excited to get there, so it’s also a difficult car ride.  This year all of that was even trickier because Dr. Peds had come down with the flu and was down and out in bed for a day and a half before we even left for the cabin, and wasn’t feeling the greatest in the car on the way either. All I wanted was for everyone to BE QUIET so that I could listen to the talking story, and of course everyone insisted on squabbling.   It was a hairy trip to the cabin.

After all of that, when we drove up to the cabin and parked the van, Cousin Alex came bounding across the gravel road.  We opened the door of the van, and he stuck his head in on the passenger side of the front seat and chirped, “And how are the two of YOU getting along?”

I nearly asphyxiated from laughter.  He’s a wise and funny boy.
