The Big Kids Go Back to School

Typically we don’t purchase a lot of clothing when taking care of our back to school shopping.  This is mostly because our kids clothing comes from a variety of sources, and most of the time those sources do not involve regular stores.  However, when Dr. Peds and Mr. SP were out gathering things on the school supply list, they came across this wonderful Darth Vader sweatshirt, with a hood that can be seen through from the inside but not the outside.  I don’t think it took much convincing from Mr. SP to get the sweatshirt in the shopping cart, and I have to admit that while I’m really not into Star Wars, I do see the appeal of a see-through hood that zips up all the way, attached to a comfortable sweatshirt.  I kind of wish I had hoods like that on my favorite sweatshirts.  Sometimes a person just has a momentary need to close off for awhile.  It’s safe to say that Mr. SP really, really loves this sweatshirt, and was definitely going to wear it on the first day of school, even though I was very adamant that the hood could not be up during school or on the bus.

These two are crazy.  Crazy, I’m telling you.

Time for the hood to come down. We made our way to the bus stop.

The Banana immediately struck up a conversation with one of our neighbors.

Before long, the bus arrived and they were off.  I feel good about their teachers this year.

Like last year, YaYa, the resident middle schooler, gets to leave for school an entire hour after the middles.  This has worked out great.  It was a lot less stressful for her to go to middle school as a seventh grader who knows her way around the building than a first year sixth grader.  The night before school started  she even figured out how to use her infinite campus account to find the bus numbers she needed when it was revealed that I accidentally recycled the packet of papers with all of the bus routes.

This little guy very happy to go to the corner to watch everyone get on the bus.  He was decidedly less excited when he realized that they had left for the day and he was going to be home with Dr. Peds and I.

However, we made it up to him at lunch when we went out to eat at a new restaurant that just opened up.  He ate an enormous pizza and loved playing with the Wikki sticks that came with the kids menu.  Wikki sticks ARE a ton of fun, and we found a lot of things to make with them before our food arrived.  Everyone had a good first day and came home in good spirits.
