The Three Trees

Because we took off on an overnight trip right after cutting down our trees, it has been a slow process to take out the Christmas decorations   All the decorating has had to haphazardly  happen in between all of the other December craziness that is part of our life right now.

The more formal tree in the piano room doesn’t have many ornaments on it this year, because truthfully, there aren’t that many branches on the tree!  It’s a good tree and has nice shape, just not many branches, and the ornaments weigh them down so quickly.  Everyone always gets so excited about unpacking the kid-made ornaments to put on the tree in the family room.  Every ornament has a special story.  Mr. Trouble on Feet has been delighted to add several new ornaments made at Sunday School and preschool to this tree.  Seriously, he gets extraordinarily excited about making ornaments.   This year’s family room tree is probably our best ever!  It’s gorgeous, and more full than we usually manage.

My favorite tree is the smaller one in the dining room.  I love that it is simple:  no lights, just colorful garland.  The tree just rests in a galvanized bucket with moist potting soil.  It’s a delicate little thing, and I love the garland so much.  I had some crochet chain that we had made previously that we put on this tree, but this year I also bought wool felted balls and strung them on string.  It was therapeutic to use a needle and make the garland.  I love wool felt, and the garland is colorful and heavy and I pretty much love everything about it.  It makes me very happy to walk past this little tree.  I will definitely be finding a place to hang that garland after Christmas.  It is too lovely to put away.

The Banana looked at the top of the tree in the piano room and was disgusted that Dr. Peds trimmed the top of it to fit it in the room better.  “Can’t we at least put a star up there?  We never put a star on the top of the tree.”  I didn’t have a star for the top of the tree, but I suggested maybe she could make one.  Her paper creation is far better than any purchased Christmas tree topper.  It even has a cute little paper pocket to fit right on top of the tree.  I’m loving it.
