His First Ever Soccer Game
Mr. TOF has been looking forward to playing soccer on a real team for months and months. Practices began a couple of weeks ago, and the very first game was last Tuesday. To be sure, he was one excited kid. He woke up Tuesday morning and immediately put on his soccer uniform, and then spent the entire day asking me how many hours it was until his soccer game. Heavens. Right as we were leaving he said to me, “Mom, I’ve been waiting for this day my entire life.”
His team decided to call themselves the “Predators,” which seems like a good name for a soccer team. A long, long time ago Mr. SP played on a U6 soccer team, but Mr. TOF didn’t qualify for U6 even though he hasn’t been to kindergarten because he turned six just a couple of weeks ago. I wasn’t sure how a first soccer experience on a U8 team would go, but my focused little soccer guy is holding his own just fine, and relishing every single second. U8 soccer has kids playing in positions and following all sorts of rules that I really don’t understand, but my little soccer guy does. The coaches rotate kids through all the positions, so he played defender and forward for the first half of the game, and then goalie for the last half. He had some nice kicks and unlike the days of his big brother’s soccer games, this kid was focused at all times.
