Trick or Treat

As I expected, the logistics of Halloween were a bit tricky this year, but it all worked out in the end, and the kidlets had a fun night.  The Banana and YaYa both had youth orchestra rehearsals since Halloween fell on a Monday night.  The Banana’s rehearsal was moved forward two hours so the members of her orchestra could still go trick or treating.  Thankfully, Dr. Peds was able to transport her to to the rehearsal since I was still working with music students.  Not all of my students came to lessons, which was a great thing actually, because it allowed me to cook supper before taking YaYa to her rehearsal, picking up The Banana, and driving to a friend’s house to pick up a trick or treating partner.  (Yay!).

When I got back, Mr. SP (who dressed up for the third year in that great swamp monster costume that he enjoys so much) and Mr. TOF (who dressed up the same astronaut costume from last year) had already vacated the house.  Mr. SP was off to trick or treat on his own, by choice, because he could cover more ground at a faster rate in the neighborhood.  Mr. TOF headed out spontaneously with neighbors halfway down the street, which he was thrilled about because “they go to way more houses than you do, Mom.”

The Banana got her Pippi Longstocking costume on, and I braided her hair with a bendy clothes hanger inside.  We had thankfully had a trial run for her hair the day before when she dressed in costume for her Sinfonia concert.  Those long, wacky braids were quite stunning.  She had to walk through doors sideways.  Hilarious.  The socks were also spectacular, even though you can’t see them well on these quickly snapped indoor pictures.

They were off into the rain, drizzle and pea soup fog.  Even though they could have gone on their own, Dr. Peds followed them with his light saber, just for fun.

I got to stay home and hand out candy, which was really fun, actually because I’m usually out trick or treating and miss all the great costumes.  There were some fantastic costumes that came to my door.

Before long Mr. TOF was back with a back of candy, followed shortly by Mr. SP.  They immediately began the process of candy sorting, and after a bit were joined by the girls.  A bit after 8:00 The Banana and I transported her friend back home and picked up YaYa from Youth Symphony rehearsal.  For my efforts I was given a little pile of peanut butter cups, the only Halloween candy I really care about.  Because her siblings had pity on her, YaYa was rewarded with a little pile of Almond Joys since she was busy working hard in rehearsal.
