Carving the Pumpkins

The Saturday before Halloween I was drowning in a sea of homemade applesauce.  I was overjoyed to have bins of apples given to me by Grandpa Bob (the grandpa of our neighbors up the hill) and the applesauce is so very tasty.  It is a time consuming process, however.  I knew that the kidlets would be at school all day on Halloween, and that we would be out of the house all day on Sunday, so Saturday needed to be the day for pumpkin carving.

Since I was busy cooking apples in the kitchen, I told the kidlets that they could get started on their own, and at least scoop out the innards without me.  Immediately Mr. SP requested his father’s power tools.  Since Dr. Peds was working at the hospital, he ended up Facetiming Dr. Peds about the location of the power tools in question, and after getting the low down, took charge of the situation.

After asking twice about whether he needed help running the power tools, I was chastised with, “MOTHER!  I CAN RUN A HACK SAW! GOOD GRIEF!”  Okay then.

Thankfully everyone still has two arms and all their fingers.

Best of all, they did everything completely on their own.

They scooped out the pumpkin guts.  They designed what they wanted the pumpkins too look like, and carved every last bit on their own.
Mr. SP made a winking pumpkin.  The Banana decorated hers with music symbols, and Mr. SP made a pirate.  He did the overseeing and designing himself, but The Banana ran the power tools for him.
