Turning the Table Purple
We’ve had an ugly narrow table in my office for years for kidlets to work on art and writing projects. It is made of pressboard, and was super cheap, but it gets the job done. I mentioned to Dr. Peds that I was thinking of painting the work table and chairs (which are leftover from an old table from long ago). He has a fit about painted wood, so he said no to painting the art-splattered chairs, but he didn’t care about the fake wood table, so earlier this fall The Banana and I hauled it down to the driveway.
I am a notoriously messy painter, and the conditions of me getting to use an old can of purple paint were that all the painting was done on the driveway over a drop cloth, nowhere near any vehicles or other items.
First I slopped some primer on the table. The Banana and Mr. TOF watched, and they would solemnly witness that I really did slop the paint on. As in, it was not a neat and precise affair. Neither was the application of purple paint. There was a great deal of dripping involved.
But lucky me! It was a warm fall day, and the table dried quickly between applications. I put on three coats of dripping purple paint, and I was able to move it back up to the office that night! We waited a couple of days before using it to make sure that everything was completely dry.
I love walking up the stairs and glancing at this bit of purple at the top of the landing. Lovely.
I only managed to paint one sweatshirt (which I still wear all around, by the way) and drip just two drops of paint on my everyday brown shoes. (I don’t let that stop me from wearing the shoes either.). Dr. Peds just shakes his head at me.
