Getting the Christmas Tree

This was probably the warmest year ever for Christmas cutting day.  It was almost a little disconcerting.  We had so much snow during the last part of October and November, but over the last 10 days our temperatures have been in the lower 40’s, and almost all of the snow has melted with the exception of a few icy patches.  So, when we ventured off to cut our trees, it was well above freezing.  We barely even needed to wear mittens.

We hiked along the trail not too far, and found two trees that looked reasonably good and were close together.  Dr. Peds chopped one down lickety split with a gigantic ax, and Mr. SP sawed the other one down.  Mr. TOF took off the dead branches with a small ax.  It was fast.  It was easy.  Everyone cooperated, which was rather shocking and unlike pretty much every Christmas tree cutting experience we’ve ever had.  In FACT, they were actually reminiscing fondly about previous years.

Chili was consumed, and we loaded the trees in the back of Dr. Peds’ pickup truck.  There was also no struggling to tie trees on top of the minivan.  The whole thing just felt a little . . . too easy.  There’s something to be said for strife, but I for one, was not complaining.

One tree is up and decorated, looking cozy,  and the other is waiting outside for the freezer in the living room to vacate back to its proper place as soon as the mudroom construction project is finished.  We have hopes we can get the freezer out of the living room by Christmas, but then again, maybe not. I am rather tired of the freezer in the living room.
