At the Cougar Chase

Two years ago The Banana trained to run the 5K race at her school’s annual Cougar Chase, but then she broke her foot and couldn’t run.  Last year she was still having some foot issues and couldn’t run a long distance.  But this year was finally her year!  She loved running with friends at running club, and got to race on race day.

She ran most of the race with two faithful running partners from school.  They had a lot of fun on the muddy  trails back in the woods.  Although race day was windy and cold for spectators, it was perfect running weather, and since it had rained quite a bit earlier in the week, there was plenty of fun mud to run through. Or so I hear.

As she came around the final bend, The Banana actually slipped and fell, but in true Banana fashion, she handled it with incredible grace and finished with a big smile on her face. The Banana zipped across the finish line in third place for her age group.  Yay!  More importantly, she finished that elusive 5K and had a fantastic time doing it.

Mr. TOF was so excited to run in the 1K race.  He actually thought there were two heats, so he didn’t start with the group on the “GO!” but made up for lost time without too much trouble.  He came in second in his age group and was super happy. I loved the determination in his hands as he zoned in on the finish line.

They ate a lot of bananas and granola bars, and we went home and had nice, long hot showers.
