In the Spirit of Grandma Edna: A Baby Quilt
It was a toasty afternoon, and in the middle of it I decided that I would just finish this half-done quilt for the baby since it meant that I would get to be in the cool basement parked on a chair for a bit. I really wasn’t in the mood to carefully consider what I was doing, and I definitely wasn’t in the mood to turn on the hot iron, so this little quilt has lots of wrinkles and misaligned squares and puckered seams and all sorts of craziness. And that’s OK. Grandma Edna would have said, “Oh well, it’s fine. It doesn’t matter if it matches up smoothly.” It reminded me so much of her that I decided to do a little minimal hand quilting to keep the two sides of material together. Those stitches aren’t straight either. (But neither were Grandma Edna’s).
The quilt is thin, hopefully just the thing for a summer baby.
At one point Ya Ya came down to the basement to see what I was doing. She wanted to keep the quilt for herself. I mentioned that it was a bit small for her. She held on to one side of the material so it would go through the machine easier.
Ya Ya: Wow, Mom, you’re really doing a good job sewing this!
Me: Well, it’s pretty messy in places. We won’t let Grandma Robbie take a close look.
Ya Ya: Well, you’re right. Compared to Grandma Robbie, it really is a mess, but for you, it’s great, Mom!

I love all the colors in it. The baby will love it. I have all of Mom’s unfinished quilts and extra material. So I have to work on them and get some done. I may try and do some while I am recovering after my surgery on the 15th.

Hey, you did a grest job, doesn’t it make you want to start another one? Maybe the sewing thing will catch on for you. I have to get started on the kids blankets for christmas soon, or I won’t get them done. Keep up the good work.
