Drawing Fish
Late, late last night, Mr. Sneaky Pants came into my office, right before I was about to go to bed. His eyes were twinkling, and he whispered to me that he had a magnificent idea of some pictures to draw for me in the morning. He planned to make a whole collection. I looked at him a little strangely, gave him a hug, and sent him back to bed. Then I forgot about it.
As soon as he woke up this morning, he ate a muffin and started working in the office with the door closed. He drew different kinds of fish whenever he had a few spare moments today. Eels. Mudfish. Shark mouths. Minnows. Tadpoles. I loved that he was so excited to use a writing utensil and that he was drawing on his own without any kind of encouragement or direction from anyone. He’s a reluctant pencil and marker user, so it was really fun to watch him get paper after paper and fill it up with such purpose and excitement.
