After seeing the strangest caterpillar frozen on a vine leaf outside my office window with little white bumps growing out of its skin, I did a little research and learned all about parasitic wasps who insert their eggs inside butterfly eggs. The larvae remain dormant inside the caterpillar until the caterpillar is almost entirely full grown, and then the larvae grow at a crazy rate making the caterpillar almost explode, but not quite. The wasp larvae paralyze the caterpillar and then bore through the caterpillar’s skin and build cocoons on the outside of the caterpillar, which eventually dies. In the case outside my window, all the drama also caused the leaf of the vine to bleach and die as well. I think insects are very interesting, so I was fascinated by this whole process.
I learned about long distance swimmers who have undertook the very chilly swim across Lake Superior. Brrr.
I learned how to make a peach custard pie (with a shortbread pressed crust, since I don’t work with rolled pie crust).
At the Piano I’m learning another new accompaniment for The Banana’s violin.
On the cello I’m still working on that vibrato, and it sort of makes me want to cry! Every time I think I’m making progress . . . I’m not. Sigh. I also learned two etudes, a movement of a sonata by Handel, and I’m working on getting better at a tricky little bowing that is very important.
Alexa listens best to my “Mom/Teacher-I-mean-business-voice.” It’s a voice that has a bit of a snarl to it.
