Cousin Day at the Sandy Beach
YaYa drove back home with me after the cabin weekend, but the other kidlets headed the opposite direction to spend a few days with Auntie Dot and the cousins. Auntie Dot delivered them back driving a borrowed 15 passenger van (7 kids didn’t fit in her vehicle) with broken air conditioning on the hottest stickiest days of this very hot, sticky summer. That’s a very loving aunt. We had a cousin day on Saturday before they had to head back on Sunday. There was a very long picture book read aloud while it drizzled and sprinkled in the morning. There was watercolor painting on the porch followed by a brief afternoon siesta. We played in the secret creek for a couple of hours in the middle of the afternoon, and then the power went out.
It was so crazily humid and hot. I literally thought I might get sick. There was not a breath of wind, and of course no fans since the power was out (for several hours). But never fear, that’s what the beach is for! We loaded up that 15 passenger van and drove down to the Lake! Even I got in the water, although it was moderately cold and I didn’t manage to submerge completely. (Also there were a lot of floaty things that day on the sandy beach, and I really do prefer the crystal clear water off the rockier beaches for swimming . . . I’m a wimp. I don’t like floating things when I’m swimming.)
We let them play and play until it was dark and a thunderstorm was practically over us.
