Learned this Summer

  • I finally figured out how to make some of the icons on my desktop computer bigger. Hooray. I’m a fan of large text these days.
  • I learned about different kinds of appogiatura
  • At the piano this summer I learned parts of Escenas Romanticas by Enrique Granados as well as several Chopin preludes. I’m slowly working my way through all sorts of Chopin preludes, and I’m really enjoying having a lot of short pieces right now. Short pieces seem to fit my current life status of a mom chasing a toddler while trying to practice. I have also been playing a number of enjoyable pieces in review. I have a number of new projects ready to go that I’m looking forward to working on this fall.
  • I took cello lessons this summer while my big kids were able to help with childcare, and I had to relearn a lot of things I had forgotten which was good, but a little disheartening. But I am working hard on learning a tough piece by Bach and an interesting piece by Vivaldi.
  • Two functioning half water barrels do not collect enough rainwater during a warm, dry summer. Usually we have three half water barrels and two full barrels, but for some reason the others did not connect properly this year, or there were gutter problems of one sort or another, and so we have been down to two working barrels, and I am always running out of water for my plants! Also, I was reminded that I dislike warm, dry summers. They are not my jam. Dry weather makes me anxious.
  • I learned that while I don’t mind reading long books, I really am a fan of shorter audiobooks.
