Glasses

We recently read the book Clementine by Sara Pennypacker.  I think it is the second or maybe even the third time I’ve read the book out loud to the kidlets, and Ya Ya has read it a few times more to herself.  It’s a great book.  We really love Sara Pennypacker.  She also wrote Stuart’s Cape, which I’ve read out loud several times.  We have the audiobook too, so we’ve listened to Stuart’s adventures many times over in the car when we travel.

In the book Clementine. the protagonist sits down to lunch in her cozy apartment, and has a bologna sandwich on her plate.  It is her favorite kind of lunch because she can take out the meat and make meat glasses by folding each slice of bologna in half and taking a bite out of the center and slapping them over her face.  I remember eating my bologna this way when I was a kid. We used to pretend they were meat donuts. My kids had never heard of bologna.  We don’t ever really buy it.  When we were at Grandma Kathy’s,  she had some deli ham, so I told Mr. Sneaky Pants we might be able to make glasses out of it just like Clementine.  He was hooked.  He ate a lot of ham.
